Instead, the gods swore to preserve human knowledge and help humanity. They threw away their swords and called themselves Jettators (from the French jette, meaning "to be thrown away"). But one immortal, Kortan, refuses to take the oath - he still seeks the prize and now hopes to rule the world. Connor challenged Cotan to a duel, only to be defeated and killed, as any immortal who breaks his oath is doomed. However, with Connor's death, the prophecy emerged of a new immortal, unbound by the oath, who would defeat Kotan. Unchallenged by the Jets and virtually unkillable by mortals, Kotan established an empire that controlled much of the Earth and ruled it from his fortress of Mogunda. 700 years later, a Highland youth named Quentin is killed while trying to defend his clan, Dundee, a slave trader from Coatan. He was the prophesied immortal and was resurrected. His dying mother revealed his true identity as Quentin MacLeod, "The Last MacLeod" of Clan MacLeod. Quentin met squirter Don Vincent Marino Ramirez, who became his mentor. Ramirez teaches Quentin about the Immortals and his mission against Kortan, and trains him in combat. Accompanied by Ramirez, his adopted sister Clyde, and their pet Gaul, Quentin seeks out the Jets to gain their acceleration and knowledge - not by decapitation, but by McGraw The druid and the squirter share the same sword at the same time (although sometimes the effect is equally damaging to the surrounding area). After sharing, a Jettator becomes mortal, and his or her sword is often shattered to indicate this. With Ramirez's intelligence and Jet's acceleration, Quentin may be able to destroy Kotan. Despite being redesigned to appeal to younger audiences, the show is surprisingly mature/violent; minor character deaths are not uncommon, and while Quentin takes the powers and knowledge of other immortals, there is no Taking away their lives, Kotan still used the old method, beheading them. Additionally, while it's essentially a good vs. evil scenario, most of the characters on both sides aren't just black and white heroes and villains. Many of Quentin's followers display good character and affection, and even Quentin is sometimes tempted by greed and selfishness, especially when given the opportunity to gain great power. Of course, in the end, his good side always wins. Some plots involve Jettators exploiting loopholes in the Oath to challenge Kortan, such as Matsuda, who built a robot to fight Kortan in his place, or Cornell, who changed his name to Orion in order to be able to fight Kortan.
